THE LATEST NEWS ON NEW BUILD PROPERTY IN SUSSEX, SURREY & HAMPSHIRE

Top Interior Design Trends for 2019 – the new year is going to be bold!

19 December 2018

You’ve found the home of your dreams, so what next? Now comes the exciting bit and for most of you, what you have been planning and thinking about for quite a few months while waiting to get into your new-build home. It’s time to start getting creative and to really put your own stamp and personality into your new home; choosing colours and designs that will make the most out of your living spaces ensuring you have a home to be proud of.

Be inspired with these 2019 interior design trends:

Pantone colour of the year 2019: Living Coral
Pantone has revealed its colour of the year for 2019 ‘Living Coral’, a shade described by Pantone as ‘an animating and life-affirming coral hue with a golden undertone that energises and enlivens with a softer edge’. It emits the desired, familiar and energising aspects of colour found in nature, mesmerising the eye and mind.

Boldly patterned backsplashes
A bolder colour choice and graphic tiles can make a stunning artistic statement to give your kitchen the ‘wow’ factor in a relatively cost-effective way. Depending how bold you wish to go, you can simply apply a contrasting colour of tile to your workbenches and units or to really have an impact, use an intricate and detailed mosaic tile as an amazing backsplash that will make your kitchen pop.

Floral fabrics and wallpapers
Named as one of ‘ELLE Décoration's’ trends for 2019, floral patterns have been around for a while, but for 2019 we will be looking at floral patterns in a new light, with contrasting colours and exaggerated proportions. The great thing with this pattern is that you can pick and choose the design depending on your style – formal or easy-going – there’s something for everyone.

Rich jewel tone colour palettes
2019 is the year to be big and bold, especially when it comes to your home. By adding richer hues throughout your home either through bold walls or furnishings it can make your more muted décor really stand out. Lookout for vibrant greens, rich purples, burnt yellows and oranges and dramatic reds. Remember, you don’t have to go big straight away, instead experiment with these colours by adding pops of colour in your linens, furniture and rugs.

Fringing – it’s all about the swish
You’ve probably seen it on the catwalk and in the high street clothes shops - fringing is back with a bang. Fabulous tassel designs are proving extremely popular, adding a flirty edge to home interiors, with the trend making its way onto cushions, curtains, mirrors and lamps. Pick out a few key items to accessorise your home with, adding a fun and a bohemian vibe to your rooms and bringing much-needed texture to simple spaces.

Light wood floors
As more homeowners are wanting an airier and more open look and feel, light coloured flooring is making a comeback. Choose shades of birch, beachy white and light oak to allow the floors to reflect more light and make the space feel much bigger. Plus, for families with little ones they are a lot more practical to keep clean from the inevitable spillages and sticky fingers.

Velvet living
Now viewed as luxurious and seductive, this multi-dimensional fabric is a must-have this season and one that is getting designers excited for 2019. Proving extremely popular over the last 6 months, with searches for velvet having increased by 400%, we predict this trend is here to stay. Think sumptuous velvet sofas, crushed velvet pillows and plush velvet beds to bring this look home.

We hope these trends inspire you and act as a guide if you’re about to decorate or update your new home. The most important thing to remember is to enjoy the process and to decorate your space with the things that are valuable to you, remind you of good times or things you just love – it’s now time to enjoy your home!
